SPRING SUMMER STYLE GUIDE 2016
When styling my clients, I tend to focus on the ‘Four S Principle’: Shade, Style, Shape and Size. Identifying the right shade to enhance their natural beauty, finding out their body shape, creating a personal style they are comfortable with and ensuring the outfit fits perfectly.
Australian Spring Summer is almost here and I am excited to not only update my wardrobe but also to assist my clients with some fresh colours and styles. This year the Spring Summer trend is all about experimenting – being an individual and having fun with your style.
Traditionally bright colours and floral prints are the norm for spring. This year however designers have opted for palettes of sugary pastels and metallic fabrics. Think of ice cream sorbet with golden flakes on top, YUM! These candy colours will be seen in stores as soon as spring arrives – so it’s that time to refresh your wardrobe.
The next three months are the busiest for Spring Summer events – primarily focused around the Australian Spring Racing Carnival. Incorporate the following colours into your Spring Racing outfit to keep up with the trend:
Lemon, mint greens, pale pinks, baby blues, soft whites, lilac, corals and nudes – all very feminine colours. Shimmering fabrics will have you turning heads and shining throughout this season. Let the metallic fabric speak for itself by keeping the rest of your look quite simple and understated. For a pop of colour, try bright orange or cobalt blue, which are still here from last Spring.
We are seeing the 70’s flared high-waisted jeans making a come back, paired with long sleeved blouses (a personal fave of mine).
The 90’s satin slip dress or pyjama style dress is also one of my favorites – effortlessly sexy and demure especially in a soft metallic silver or rose pink. It’s a fantastic dress that can take you from day to night just by changing your accessories. For a more casual take, try layering your shirt under a sleeveless dress, it’s a trend you can try with what you already have in your wardrobe. As I mentioned earlier it’s about experimenting with your style and having fun.
Puffy sleeved shirts, fringe dresses and bold accessories are a hit this season too. To make an entrance at an event, wear a structured volume skirt or dress, it’s very fashion forward from the catwalk to ready-to-wear.
In the accessories department, oversized retro sunglasses and chandelier statements earrings are making a huge come back. They are bold, daring and dramatic. Also, chockers, elongated earrings, African inspired statement necklaces, chucky bracelets and bangles and statement rings (as opposed to the tiny cluster of rings from the autumn winter trend). Manish neckties, scarfs, ankle chains, single large and unmatched earrings are so in right now.
So go ahead and experiment this season and have fun!
